No matter the industry, B2B marketers are asking many of the same questions.
At SmartBrief, I support marketing across several industry verticals, and regardless of the audience or campaign, we keep coming back to the same challenge: How do we build marketing programs that generate results today while also creating demand for tomorrow?
That's one of the biggest lessons I've learned in my role—that successful marketing is about much more than generating leads.
It's about creating awareness before someone is ready to buy. It's about earning trust with buyers your sales team has never spoken to. It's about reaching the people behind the decision-maker, because in B2B, purchases rarely come down to one person. It's about helping your brand stay relevant long before a prospect fills out a form.
Those are the conversations we're having on our marketing team every day. How do we continue delivering high-quality leads while also making sure we're building awareness, earning trust and reaching buyers throughout the entire buying journey? The more time I spend in B2B marketing, the more I realize those goals aren't competing priorities—they're connected.
Throughout this series, we'll share how we're thinking about some of the biggest opportunities and challenges facing B2B marketers today. We'll explore topics like balancing investments that drive immediate pipeline with those that build long-term brand equity, adapting to changing buyer behaviors, understanding where emerging tactics like video fit into the marketing mix and finding new ways to reach increasingly complex buying committees.
We don't claim to have all the answers, but we hope to shed light on how we're thinking through these challenges, the questions we're asking and the lessons we're learning as the B2B marketing landscape continues to evolve.
Marketing changes constantly. New channels emerge. Buying behaviors evolve. Budgets shift. What worked a year ago may not work today. There's always something new to learn, test and rethink.
One thing hasn't changed, though: The strongest marketing strategies rarely rely on a single tactic. The challenge isn't deciding which tactic is "best"—it's understanding how different strategies work together to support the entire buyer journey.
Some of the questions we'll be exploring include:
- Why is brand awareness still one of the smartest investments a B2B marketer can make?
- When does video make sense as part of your marketing strategy?
- How do you reach an entire buying committee instead of just one contact?
- What does "always-on" marketing actually look like?
- Which metrics matter most—and which ones only tell part of the story?
Whether you're planning your next campaign, rethinking your marketing mix or simply looking at familiar challenges from a different perspective, I hope this series helps spark new ideas and conversations within your own marketing team.
We're looking forward to exploring these topics, sharing what's working for our team and continuing the conversation with fellow B2B marketers.
